Hawaii | A Wedding in Paradise

Jake and I had been wanting to make a trip to Hawaii since it had been six years since our last trip ...and I hadn't seen my family in 2 years. Hopefully we won't ever have to go that long again. When my brother announced that he was planning to propose, the timing couldn't have been more perfect. We had over a year to plan {and save} so that was very helpful so we could get our ducks in a row. They had a huge wedding, but it was just gorgeous and everyone had the best time. I helped my parents get all dolled up and we all just really enjoyed ourselves. I will admit that I did shed a few {happy} tears.

First, a few professional photos:

...and my photos are below:

The bride and groom did an amazing job planning and the venue was gorgeous. Leading up to the wedding, everyone back in the mainland was asking me if they were getting married on a beach and I had to laugh, everyone has their stereotypes of a Hawaiian wedding.  Their wedding was actually at Nani Mau Gardens in Hilo which is just beautiful. Highly recommend if you ever find yourself on the Big Island.

The reception was a blast! So much fun dancing!

Cheers to Aaron & Lydia! We love you guys so much and wish you only the best.

Love,
Kim (+ Jake)

What's In A Name?

Did you ever wonder where my blog name "Vintage Modern" came from?

(Photos below are by Jagger Photography).

When I was planning my our wedding in late 2010/early 2011 I was trying to find a theme. I noticed that I gravitated towards vintage touches - we ended up using an old typewriter instead of a guestbook, a vintage train case to hold cards and an old birdcage as the centerpiece to hold the flowers at the altar. But I also had a lot of modern ideas - my colors would be yellow and gray (I consider yellow to be more modern and gray to be more vintage). I wanted to wear a ball gown made of organza {with pockets}! I decided that I would paint my nails greige because I didn't want to be the cookie cutter traditional bride.

That is actually one of my favorite things about weddings -- that the couple gets to choose everything themselves and personalize it as much or as little as possible.

So, when people asked me, I referred to my theme as vintage/modern which I know sounds kind of odd because they seem like direct opposites. And they kind of are. But, overall, it worked! I was so happy that I got to incorporate elements that were both vintage and modern. I think it ended up exactly how I wanted it to.

I still like both vintage and modern elements and when I decided that I was going to start a blog, I thought it would be the perfect name to describe my style. I will say that I would consider myself more on the modern side now, but I recognize that I am always changing and growing and I wouldn't have had my wedding any other way... Well, maybe we can have a vow renewal in Italy for our 10 year anniversary in Summer 2021?1?!

If you want to see more of our wedding photos, be sure to check out our Wedding Chicks Feature. We just celebrated our 3 year anniversary and I must say that I can't wait to see what the next 3, 5, 10, 15+ years bring!

Photobooth

Ever since I heard about the photo-booth idea at a wedding, I have always wanted to try it! But, for some reason none of our friends ever had one... Well, that all changed at Brooklyn & Tyler's wedding which was last month in Seattle. I'm pretty sure it was one of the funnest things ever.

Enjoy the pictures below!

And feel free to invite me to your wedding if you have a photo-booth, that is.

Group shot! But my mustache isn't ready...

It's how we roll.

Happy 1st Anniversary

The Great Wheel
As you may or may not know, Jake and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary on Sunday, August 5th.  We went camping/"glamping" at Lake Connor for the weekend and we just really enjoyed nature and the Lake. I will do a post on that later this week.

To celebrate our anniversary, Jake and I had dinner reservations at one of our favorite restaurants, Purple in downtown Seattle. We both tried some amazing new Italian wines and had our favorite appetizer, feta walnut spread with pita bread. I could have eaten that for my entire meal.  I ordered Maine Lobster baked mac and cheese {I have had this before and it was amazing, as usual} and Jake ordered Pan seared halibut with spring vegetables and arugula pistou.  For dessert, we shared a Peanut butter banana pie.Overall, a great dinner.

We got a window seat!
We had been wanting to try the Seattle Great Wheel {it opened right before we went on our Italy trip} for a while now.  It was scorching on Sunday, so we decided to wait until it got dark and went after dinner instead of before dinner as originally planned.  We also are both afraid of heights and Jake thought it would be less scary at night because you can't see everything -- I think I would agree.. but I still want to see what it looks like during the day.  The Great Wheel was pretty entertaining.  I enjoyed it!

Bozeman, MT Wedding Recap

I'm sure you were all wondering where the heck I was for the past few days, I forgot to mention that we were heading to Bozeman, Montana for my friend Amy's wedding!  Amy & Matt got married on Saturday at a gorgeous venue and overall, our trip was a blast! It was our first time to Bozeman and Jake and I both really enjoyed it. The weather was gorgeous - not a drop of rain, in the 80-90s the entire time and just all around fun. We stayed at the Come On Inn! No, really. And there was taxidermy everywhere. It was great! Definitely different from the scenery in Seattle.

THURSDAY: Arrive, check in and get prepped for the Bachelorette Party...

Shan, Emily & I at the Come On Inn, Bozeman, MT
We had a fun night on the town on Main Street for Amy's last night out!

FRIDAY:  We chilled during the day, got our nails done and went to the Garage for lunch. It was yummy! Then, we headed to the rehearsal dinner at a lovely park.

SATURDAY: The Big Day! We were in charge of setting up the flowers and I think they looked pretty gorgeous, if I don't say so myself. What do you think?

Peonies, my favorite!

Guilty Pleasures

Via Style Me Pretty

I know we all have them. For me it includes, browsing wedding blogs long after my own wedding. I am not sure I  will ever stop looking at these blogs. They are amazing! Like crazy creative! Some of the things people think of really just blows my mind. I will also admit that I have a "wedding" pinterest board and I opened my pinterest account after I got married. Don't hate. Are you on pinterest? That is another one of my guilty pleasures! I can spend hours on that site. It is definitely the new black.

Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUTK) | Via Kim's Official Website

My other guilty pleasure which I Indulged in last night is... watching any show that has the Kardashians in it. There, I said it. I am slightly embarrassed, but not enough that I wouldn't admit it to the whole wide internet world.  We watched the Season Finale of Khloe & Lamar last night, but I am getting excited about the beginning of KUTK Season 7!! I think those girls are gorgeous. Yeah, sometimes they are annoying, but they kinda have to be or we wouldn't watch the show. Probably some of it is fake (I can't deny that), but at least I stopped watching Jersey Shore after Season 1.  That show was a REAL train wreck.

Well, there you have it folks. Two of my guilty pleasures. Anyone care to share their own guilty pleasures?
