What's In A Name?

Did you ever wonder where my blog name "Vintage Modern" came from?

(Photos below are by Jagger Photography).

When I was planning my our wedding in late 2010/early 2011 I was trying to find a theme. I noticed that I gravitated towards vintage touches - we ended up using an old typewriter instead of a guestbook, a vintage train case to hold cards and an old birdcage as the centerpiece to hold the flowers at the altar. But I also had a lot of modern ideas - my colors would be yellow and gray (I consider yellow to be more modern and gray to be more vintage). I wanted to wear a ball gown made of organza {with pockets}! I decided that I would paint my nails greige because I didn't want to be the cookie cutter traditional bride.

That is actually one of my favorite things about weddings -- that the couple gets to choose everything themselves and personalize it as much or as little as possible.

So, when people asked me, I referred to my theme as vintage/modern which I know sounds kind of odd because they seem like direct opposites. And they kind of are. But, overall, it worked! I was so happy that I got to incorporate elements that were both vintage and modern. I think it ended up exactly how I wanted it to.

I still like both vintage and modern elements and when I decided that I was going to start a blog, I thought it would be the perfect name to describe my style. I will say that I would consider myself more on the modern side now, but I recognize that I am always changing and growing and I wouldn't have had my wedding any other way... Well, maybe we can have a vow renewal in Italy for our 10 year anniversary in Summer 2021?1?!

If you want to see more of our wedding photos, be sure to check out our Wedding Chicks Feature. We just celebrated our 3 year anniversary and I must say that I can't wait to see what the next 3, 5, 10, 15+ years bring!
