Sunday Drive

A few months ago, Jake and I had a delicious brunch at Fahrenheit in Uptown Charlotte. It's a new restaurant on the 21st floor of the SKYE Condominiums. We checked out the view from the rooftop deck and it was spectacular. I highly recommend the restaurant. The view, the food and the ambiance were some of the best we've had in Charlotte. We tried lobster rolls, ahi tuna wontons and shared the Easter brunch entree which was ham, eggs, home fries and kale topped with a bourbon glaze.  Yes, it tasted as good as it sounds.

After brunch, Jake and I took a short 30 minute drive to Davidson, NC where Davidson College is. I've heard that the campus is beautiful. We walked around the tiny downtown and explored the campus.  I took these shots and {cue suspense}, then the unthinkable happened.

I dropped the camera on concrete with the lens open. This has always been my greatest fear! I tried turning it on and off but it kept giving me the same error message and the barrel around the lens was slightly crooked so it wouldn't close or open all the way.

It's not a crazy expensive camera and it's 2 years old so it wasn't the absolute end of the world. But, I was sad. I spent the whole time driving home looking up repair places and trying to figure out if it would be worth it to repair it. We had several trips coming up {Charleston, NYC, Seattle} and I had planned to take a billion photos and now the camera was broken.  We got home and I started looking up this error and possible DIY ways to fix the camera. One of the suggestions was to jam the barrel back into place by slamming the camera really hard against a sofa. I'm not joking and I spent a good half and hour trying this method. It didn't work. We also tried using a credit card to pry the damaged barrel and get it back in line with the other parts of the barrel. That didn't work either.

Then I basically gave up. About 15 minutes later, the next thing I know Jake says "what will you give me if I fix the camera" and comes waltzing in the bedroom with the camera! He repaired it using a butter knife! So, the moral of the story is - sometimes I need my handy husband to fix things for me. The end.

I leave you with the view from our apartment, at sunset.
