EBATES

My friend told me about ebates last week and it is seriously the best thing that I've heard about in a long time! It's really simple.  You get paid via cash back every quarter for shopping online at the sites you normally would already shop at.  Sounds too good to be true right? But it's not! Here is a CNET review.

Steps:

1. First sign up - preferably click here to use my referral link :)
2. Once you are on the site, click on "shop all stores" so you can see what's available. Then, click on the gray heart next to whichever stores you want to favorite.  You can only favorite 50 stores... and let's just say I ran out of favories on letter S! So I had to go back and re-evaluate my selections.
3. Before you shop online, go to ebates.com first. Then, click on the store name to be transferred directly to the site. Apparently ebates gets some type of commission for sending you to their site and they are paying some of that commision back to you in the form of a % of cash back.
4. I spent $88 at a store that was offering 20% cash back! So I am scheduled to get almost $18. Score, right? FYI - most cash back rates are smaller - like 2 - 6%. But this is great for Christmas shopping!

Can you see how excited I am? The possibilites are endless!

Some of my favorite stores on ebates: Apple, Banana Republic, Jcrew, Sephora, CB2.

Have you signed up yet? If not, what are you waiting for?! Happy Shopping!

Weekend Finds

Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. We certainly did!

First of all - are you on instagram? I recently signed up when I finally got my new iPhone 5 {@kolsen206} and am officially obsessed. I have no idea why I love it so much but I do. So now you can find me on: twitter, instagram, blogging, facebook. Will it ever end?

I told Jake that he should be proud of me that I only currently use 3/6 social networking sites below. It could be worse, people!

My setup screen on instagram
On Saturday, we got to hang out with our little niece {Brynn} again {love her. so so much.}

Is that you on the phone, aunty Kim?
We also went to CityTarget twice and bought a bunch of stuff including these towels.  They look almost exactly like the towels we bought from anthro but for half the price. #yesplease.

$9.99 at target!
I treated myself {remember #treatyoselfday from Parks & Rec} to a couple nice things.  Up first, I got this lovely jcrew pencil skirt for $60. {originally $130, marked down to $69 + additional 15% teacher discount}. I didn't get the additional 25% off because you had to spend $150 to get that deal. I was thisclose to buying a red pair of the toothpick denim jeans that I am obsessed with {they are so comfy), but they are still on sale for $89. I am waiting for them to go down to $49. Then I will be there. I pretty much check the website every day to check if the price dropped yet.

As you can see, this is instagram-ified!
I also splurged at lululemon because you can never have enough cool racerback tanks. Love my CRB's! I would wear one every day if I could.

I got a fun burgundy color for Fall!
What did you do this weekend?

P.S. Can you believe it's October already?!?!

Fall = Orange

Happy i-phone eve!!!! I woke up this morning to my shipping confirmation e-mail.  The first thing I do after my alarm goes off is read my emails on my phone. Jake came back into the bedroom after getting ready {he wakes up before me} and the first thing I said to him was...did you check your email? He just laughed at me.  What?!?!?... I'm excited!

It sure feels like fall is making it's way to Washington, sadly.  Last night I made pumpkin cream cheese from scratch and I had it on my bagel this morning. Yummy! Find the recipe here.

Secondly, I have been wanting to purchase a new handbag and I found this little beauty in the latest edition of People Stylewatch.  It's orange! How fun right?

Shopping Addiction

I wanted to share some of my current favorite stores to shop at {both online and in store}.  Sometimes I will splurge on something if I know they are investments such as my Hunter rain boots or a top from anthropologie or madewell that is well made and will last several years.  See my shopping tips here. But lately, I have noticed that I have been more of a bargain hunter.  It's actually kind of fun to try to get more for your money by paying attention to coupons, sales, etc.  Occasionally I will pick up an item, not look at the price tag, try it on and tell myself, its its under XX dollars, I give myself permission to get it.

My favorite store right now is....

J.CREW!

They do have good sales and everything eventually goes on sale if you wait long enough and you dont wear a too mainstream size. There is also 15% off regular priced items {I forgot if it includes sale too} for teachers so I usually make Jake buy everything for me and I pay him back, of course. I love their prints, patterns and have you seen their new brights they debuted at NY fashion week? I die!

I LOVE the red paired with teal.

Some of my other standbys are:

ANTHROPOLOGIE

I have always loved anthro from the day I first stepped into the store in downtown Seattle.  They recently had "anthro day" {this past Saturday} where they offered 20% off all full priced styles. This has never happened before people. While I tried on several things, I ended up purchasing this beauty (on sale for $29 here):

Tart Citron Skirt from Anthro
I think I have a neon obsession.

THE LOFT (ANN TAYLOR)

I have noticed that my work and play clothes are starting to mesh. It just kind of happened by accident. Instead of having two separate wardrobes, I can have one even bigger one! I like! The Loft, previously known as Ann Taylor Loft has more casual pieces that Ann Taylor, but I do shop at both. I tried on this dress this weekend and almost bought it but the fit wasn't quite right. I love the pink zipper detail on the back. The Loft also had 40% off everything in the store {including sale} on Saturday.

I would love to hear what your top 3 favorite stores are!

My Shopping Tips

As requested by one of my friends {and since one of my passions is fashion}, I would now like to share my top 3 shopping tips.  I find that they are very simple {you would think common sense}, but good rules to live by.  I will say that there are times when I am shopping that all common sense goes right out the window.  But, I try very hard to be strong and follow these guidelines.

1. Do not buy anything {unless its a really good deal} on impulse. If you really want it, it will most likely still be there a couple days later unless its on some ultra clearance and will be scooped up by someone else in the next few hours.  For example, I recently went into the new downtown Nordstrom Rack {I once vowed to never step foot in any Nordstrom rack ever again about 2 years ago after a particularly messy shopping experience. But, my co-worker had to run in and she somehow convinced me to accompany her}. That's when I spotted it - from across the room. What a beauty!

I exclaimed "It would be perfect for ITALY!" My co-worker said it looked "just like me". Everyone says that about things I like. Either I have really good friends who know me really well or I am just plain boring and predictable.  Anyway, I backed away from it and tried really hard not to think about it for several days.  That being said, it was all I could think about and I became obsessed with it. The more I tried not to think about it, the more I thought about it. It was on sale -- which definitely fueled my fire. But, in the end, I am proud to say that I didn't buy it. We stopped by Nordstrom Rack in Portland and I was still able to resist {it was the last one, no sales tax}.. you get the idea. I had to just be strong and wait for the urge to pass. Now, I am totally OK with passing on it. Remember my facebook status last week: "Announcement to the world: "I am not allowed to buy ANYTHING else for Italy. No clothes, electronics, sandals, or purses." The end."

2. Don't buy something just because it's on sale.  I like to shop without looking at price tags.  That is crazy, you say? Well, think of it like this:  I want to decide if I like something before I know how much it costs.  I don't want to let the price sway me either way.  Of course, I will look at the price tag before I decide to buy it or not -- I have definitely been at Nordstrom and found a super cute dress that happened to be $600+. Of course I didn't buy it.  So, just be smart. Sometimes I will set a price before I look at the price tag and say, if its under $50, I will buy it. Or if its over $100, I won't buy it. Works for me.

3. Invest in classic pieces and save the trends for Forever 21/Target/outlets. Sometimes I find it hard to spend hundreds of dollars at j.crew on a nice dress or skirt, but I tell myself that it will last for a long time and it is very high quality.  I would rather spend more money on one classic piece than several cheaper pieces. But, I do allow myself to buy what I call "trendy items" from cheaper places like Target or Forever 21. I am still wearing sandals I got from target 4 years later. They are so comfy and I probably wear them at least once a week. So, there are definite exceptions to this rule. If something is cheap {dollar wise}, it doesn't always mean cheap {quality wise}.  But, that is often the case. For example, I find that several shirts I bought from Target get pilly really fast {and I cannot handle pilly shirts}, whereas I don't see that happening as much with higher quality {and more expensive} shirts.

Those are my tips! Do you have any shopping tips that you use regularly?

P.S. One week until ITALY!!!!!

Colored Denim

While shopping last weekend for a dress {for my friend's wedding}, I bought my very first pair of colored jeans from j crew! No, I did not find a dress in case you were wondering. The picture below isn't exactly the right color blue, but its close. I have been coveting colored jeans for a long time on pinterest and I finally got the courage to buy a pair. It did help that they were on sale.

Have you purchased anything exciting lately that you are just dying to wear?

P.S. I started my "packing list" today! I am hoping to share it with you all soon!

Cross Body Bag via Lo & Sons

On the recommendation of Katie, our lovely honeymoon trip planner, I purchased this cross body bag today {in coastal blue}! I got 25% off my order just for liking them on Facebook. That brought the total down to a whopping $36 {plus free shipping and no sales tax}. What a steal! It's definitely on the smaller side but I think it will work perfectly for Italy since I don't want something gigantic for day to day travel.  Let's hope so at least!

Hope your Tuesday is going better than mine :(  The bag purchase was probably the highlight of my day.
